January 26 Blue Grass UMC and Hightown UMC are hosting a Rise Against Hunger event. Set up at 1 pm. Packaging at 2 pm. Located at the Blue Grass Ruritan Club Building, 2724 Blue Grass Valley Rd. View the flier here.

January 29-February 26 (all classes on Wednesdays at 2 pm) South Roanoke UMC, located at 2330 S. Jefferson St. is hosting a learning project for 2025, called RADICLE METHODISM: GETTING TO THE ROOT OF US. “Radicle” refers to the part of a plant embryo that develops into the primary root. Study materials and videos are free. You can do the study on your on time, or make your own small group.  Registration is not required, but you can get an e-copy of the guidebooks in

February 1  Blacksburg UMC located at 111 Church St. in Blacksburg is hosting a Rise Against Hunger event from 10 am to 12 pm in their Whisner building.  Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies. In 2022, 67.6 million meals were distributed worldwide! Sign up as a volunteer to assist with setting up prior to the event, packing the meals, and cleanup afterward. Sign up link here

February 8 Valley Ridge District Safer Sanctuaries Training 10am-12 pm at Main Street UMC in Waynesboro, located at 601 West Main Street. Register here

February 8, 1-3 pm. "Wellness for the Winter Blues" at South Roanoke UMC, located at 2330 S. Jefferson St. in Roanoke. This event is made possible through Arts Connect Neighbors. Doors open at 1pm, Performance at 1:30pm, Activities until 3:00pm It's common to feel down during the winter months. Let's learn, connect, and support each other through the season. We'll explore uplifting art activities and experience an educational dance performance about Seasonal Affective Disorder. February 22 The next Lay Servant Ministry Training will be held February 22, 2025 at Genesis UMC in Roanoke. The training will be 8:30am-4:30pm. Each course requires 2-4 hours of advanced reading.  This opportunity allows lay persons to fulfill the Disciplinary requirements for certification as a Lay Servant, work toward becoming a Lay Speaker, or maintain their certification by completing a required advanced course. The cost of the training is $15, which includes snacks and lunch. The fee can be paid in advance of February 22 by check mailed to Valley Ridge District Office (402 Second St. SW Roanoke, VA 24011) OR on the day of the training with EXACT CASH ONLY. March 8 Faith in Troubled Times: Powerful Prayer That Avails Much, a workshop hosted by Main Street UMC in Waynesboro (located at 601 West Main Street) and sponsored by the Valley Ridge District. April 26  District UWF Spiritual Life Retreat at Camp Alta Mons and Retreat Center (located at2842 Crockett Springs Road? in Shawsville, VA). Retreat is from 10:30 am- 3:30 pm.

August 9:  District UWF Team/Office Meeting at 10:00 am. 

October 4:  District UWF Annual Meeting at Calvary UMC, Stuarts Draft (located at 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway in Stuarts Draft, VA)The day includes 10:30 am gathering with refreshments and 11:00 am program.
